Sir Richard J. Evans

Historian and international bestselling author, Regius Professor Emeritus of History, University of Cambridge

Richard J. Evans was born in London in 1947 and graduated from Oxford University in 1966 with First Class Honours in Modern History. After taking his D.Phil at St. Antony's College, Oxford, he taught at a number of universities before he was appointed Regius Professor of History at Cambridge University. His many books include Tod in Hamburg (1990), Fakten und Fiktionen (1998), Rituale der Vergeltung (2001), Das Dritte Reich (3 Bde, 2004 - 2009), Veränderte Vergangenheiten 2014), Das europäische Jahrhundert (2018), and Das Dritte Reich und seine Verschwörungstheorien (2021). In 2000 he was the principal expert witness for the High Court in London at the unsuccessful libel action brought by David Irving against Deborah Lipstadt, as shown in the 2016 Hollywood movie 'Denial'. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Hamburger Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft  and Honorary Degrees from Oxford and London. In 2012 he was knighted for services to scholarship.
