Dr. Andreas Rüesch

Andreas Rüesch has been deputy head of the foreign editorial office at the NZZ since 2012. He specialises in international security policy and the Russian war against Ukraine, and has been part of the foreign editorial office since 1996. From 1998 to 2002, he followed the end of the Yeltsin era and the rise of Putin as a correspondent in Moscow. From 2002 to 2008, he reported from Washington on US policy. Rüesch studied history and economics at the University of Zurich and, after language trips to the former Eastern Bloc, completed his studies with a dissertation on reform policy in Russia. He often travelled to the former Soviet republics in Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
