Barnaby Skinner

Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Neue Zürcher Zeitung

Barnaby Skinner has been deputy editor-in-chief of the NZZ since September 2024. Prior to that, he was head of the visuals department at the NZZ from February 2020 to August 2024. From 2016 to 2020, he built up and successfully managed the data journalism team at the publishing house Tamedia. In 2016 he also completed the Lede Programme at the renowned Columbia School of Journalism. His work as a technology reporter took him to the ‘Sonntags-Zeitung’ and the ‘Tages-Anzeiger’ from 2006 to 2015, where he regularly spent time in Silicon Valley. From 2002 to 2006, he was editor-in-chief of the online newspaper news.ch. He began his journalistic career in 2000/01 as a local reporter for the English-language newspaper The Daily Star in Beirut, Lebanon. He was born in Newport, Great Britain, in 1974 and attended the Realgymnasium in Basel. He completed his studies in modern history, specialising in the history of technology and industrialisation.
